Cathy Sue Cutler named President of SNMMI
Cathy Sue Cutler, PhD, FSNMMI, Chair of the Isotope Research and Production Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), has been appointed as the president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI). This announcement came during SNMMI's 2024 Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada, where a new slate of officers was introduced.
In her role as president, Cutler aims to address the workforce shortage in various nuclear medicine professions, including radiochemists, medical physicists, radiopharmacists, nuclear technologists, and physicians. She plans to emphasize pathways into the field and create training opportunities in theranostics. Cutler also aims to enhance public education on the value of nuclear medicine for patients.
"Cathy’s leadership and dedication to advancing the field of nuclear medicine have been exemplary. Her appointment as president of SNMMI is a testament to her hard work. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and are confident that she will continue to make significant contributions to the field. Cathy’s numerous awards and recognitions reflect her outstanding commitment to the Department of Energy Isotope Program, Brookhaven National Laboratory and the broader scientific community," said Jehanne Gillo, Director of the DOE Isotope Program.
In 2024, Cutler was part of the team that was awarded the Department of Energy Secretarial Honors Award for its work on Ac-225; this is the highest form of employee or contractor recognition for achievements from the DOE. In 2022 she received the Pinnacle Award in Science and Technology from Brookhaven National Laboratory to recognize distinguished contributions to the laboratory’s science and technology mission. In 2019, Cutler received the Brookhaven 33rd Annual Women’s Recognition Award for Achievements in Science, and in 2014, she received the Mizzou Advantage Entrepreneurial Award.
Cutler holds 12 patents and has published 95 peer-reviewed journal articles and eight book chapters. She has given more than 100 invited speaker presentations.
