The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Isotope Program is pleased to announce the availability of heavy water (D2O) for research purposes. The general specifications of the material are given in the table below. Additional analytical results are available upon request.

The heavy water is packaged in polypropylene-coated, stainless steel kegs, each with a capacity of 50 L and measuring approximately 41 cm in diameter × 54 cm height (see figure). Full kegs have a gross weight of approximately 63 kg, which includes 50 kg of heavy water. To ensure product quality, purchases may only be made in full keg quantities.

Please direct any questions or requests for additional information to Mitch Ferren, Associate Director for Business Operations, National Isotope Development Center, at ferrendm@ornl.gov or 865-574-6602.
