U.S. DOE Announces RENEW Funding Opportunity
DOE Seal
The DOE Isotope Program (DOE IP) is participating in the recently announced DOE Office of Science (SC) Reaching a New Energy Sciences Workforce (RENEW) initiative. The RENEW initiative supports traineeships for students and postdoctoral researchers from non-R1 emerging research institutions (ERI) and non-R1 minority serving institutions (MSI) in areas relevant to SC programs. An R1 institution refers to a research-intensive university classified as having the highest level of research activity according to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions. SC seeks applications to develop traineeships for participants from these institutions that involve conducting research in partnership with a DOE-affiliated institution, including DOE National Laboratories, SC user facilities, Bioenergy Research Centers, or DOE Isotope Program Production Sites.
Aligning coursework at educationally appropriate levels with summer opportunities for trainees to visit DOE IP production sites, such as the highly specialized facilities and resources at the DOE/NNSA National Laboratories and the University Isotope Network, introduces students to the career opportunities within isotope science.
Traineeships may include partnerships with multiple DOE-affiliated partner institutions to learn about the diversity and breadth of science conducted by the Office of Science. Only non-R1 ERIs or non-R1 MSIs are eligible to lead an application; and only domestic entities may be proposed as partners.
Pre-applications are mandatory and are due on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 5:00 PM ET. Applications will be due on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Only those applicants that receive notification from DOE encouraging a formal application may submit full applications.
