U.S. DOE Announces Funding for Accelerated, Inclusive Research (FAIR) initiative for FY 2024
The DOE Isotope Program (DOE IP) is participating in the recently announced DOE Office of Science Funding for Accelerated, Inclusive Research (FAIR) initiative. Isotope researchers from historically underrepresented areas in the SC portfolio, specifically non-R1 emerging research institutions (ERIs) and non-R1 minority serving institutions (MSIs) are encouraged to submit proposals to this initiative. This funding opportunity announcement aims to build research capacity through mutually beneficial relationships between applicants and DOE national laboratories, SC scientific user facilities, or R1 MSI/ERIs. Capacity building is interpreted broadly to include both personnel expertise and infrastructure and is expected to be durable, contributing over time toward sustained research strength at the lead institution. This funding will expand the talent pool to further the Department’s missions, transform our understanding of nature, and catalyze scientific discoveries that can lead to technical breakthroughs.
"Increasing Access to Radioisotopes by Advancing Radiochemical Training Capabilities" was awarded by the DOE IP through this initiative in FY23. It was proposed by Melissa Deri from CUNY Lehman College in collaboration with Vanessa Sanders at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).
