DOE Isotope Program to host Radium-226 Safety Roundtable

Best practices and safe handling of Ra-226

Join the Department of Energy Isotope Program on May 30, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Eastern) for the Virtual Roundtable on Best Practices and Safe Handling of Ra-226.

As interest in targeted alpha therapy grows, so has the demand for Ra-226 feedstock to produce these important alpha-emitters such as Ac-225, Ac-227/Th-227/Ra-223, Th-228/Ra-224/Pb-212, and Th-229. The physical properties of Ra-226 present unique and challenging handling requirements, particularly due to its decay daughter, radon-222.

The first 90 minutes of the roundtable will feature candid discussions on best practices, facility types, appropriate capabilities, and technical challenges with invited speakers from the international community. A Q&A session will immediately follow these discussions, with priority given to questions submitted at least a week ahead of the roundtable.
