HIPPO Students Showcase Summer Projects During ORNL Visit

Participants of the HIPPO Conference with Christopher Landers, Director of the Office of Isotope R&D and Production, and Ethan Balkin, Program Manager for Radioisotope R&D and Acting Program Manager for Accelerator Isotope Facilities
The Horizon-broadening Isotope Production Pipeline Opportunities (HIPPO) collaboration is a signature workforce development program for the U.S. aimed at preparing the next generation of isotope production professionals. Student trainees take part in experiences in the research, development, and processing activities that support the nation's radioisotope supply. This year, the program supported 24 undergraduate and graduate students from 13 institutions across the U.S.
The summer training experience culminated in the the first week of August with three concurrent HippoCampus workshops at the University of Utah, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Texas A&M, before the entire cohort traveled to Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for the final HIPPOmoot. The visit to ORNL included a poster session where students shared insights from their individual research projects and engaged with research scientists and laboratory staff.
HIPPO is supported by the Department of Energy’s Office of Isotope R&D and Production, within the Office of Science, and the program is managed by Texas A&M University. ous Next
