The DOE Isotope Program inventory of tungsten-188 (W-188) will soon be replenished and available for purchase in late January 2020. Tungsten-188's decay product, rhenium-188 (Re-188), is a gamma and beta-emitting radionuclide of interest within the nuclear medicine community for a variety of therapeutic applications.
Tungsten-188 (t1/2 = 69.78 days) is produced at the DOE High Flux Isotope Reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory through the neutron bombardment of the enriched stable isotope tungsten-186. The W-188 product is offered as sodium tungstate in NaOH solution or loaded on a Tungsten-188/Rhenium-188 Generator.
