A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY ISOTOPE PROGRAM

Hello everyone,

I would like to announce that the Department of Energy (DOE) Program Manager for Isotope Facilities, Dr. Ethan Balkin, has expressed interest in assuming the responsibilities of Program Manager for Isotope R&D. This was the position vacated by Dr. Dennis Phillips when he retired last year. So please welcome Dr. Balkin as the new federal Program Manager for Isotope R&D.

In addition, I’d like to give the community advance notification of a position that will be advertised in the very near future (hopefully in the next few weeks) within the DOE Isotope Program. This permanent federal position—Program Manager for Isotope Facilities—will be located at DOE’s Germantown, Maryland, headquarters site. This individual would report directly to me and would join the team in the DOE Office of Science for Nuclear Physics. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply.

This is a very important position within our team. This individual is responsible for routine isotope production at the reactors and accelerator facilities across the DOE national laboratory complex, as well as the consideration of the feasibility of new isotope production, and maintenance/upgrade of the isotope production facilities. It is a critical role in the strategic planning for the DOE Isotope Program. I urge you to give this position some thought and to bring qualified candidates to my attention at jehanne.gillo@science.doe.gov. Feel free to contact me for more details. We look forward to receiving applications for the Program Manager for Isotope Facilities in the very near future.

With best regards,

Dr. Jehanne Gillo
Director, Facilities and Project Management Division
